About me
Dr. Misook Park Kimura is a consultant for Thinking Maps, Inc. and received her doctorate at the University of Southern California in 2007 in Teacher Education in Multicultural Societies. Working closely with Dr. Sandra Kaplan, Dr. Kimura's expertise in gifted education has led her to focus her research on factors affecting the transfer of differentiated curriculum from professional development into classroom practice. Her other research topics include the support of Multilingual students identified as gifted learners, language acquisition, and providing professional development to educators across the country regarding differentiated instruction. She received her Master's degree in Education and Teaching Credential from Pepperdine University, and is a double major in Psychology and Asian American Studies from University California Santa Barbara.
With 20 years of experience in K-12 public education as a classroom teacher, certified in Gifted Education, BTSA coach, reviewer for Pearson Scott-Foresman, and mentor for the Cotsen Family Foundation, Dr. Kimura provides a wide range of opportunities for educators to participate in Professional Learning Communities. She presents annually at CABE, ATLDE, and CAG. Since being certified as a trainer in Thinking Maps since 2001 by Chris Yeager, Write From the Beginning and Beyond and Path to Proficiency by Jane Buckner, the visual language has been a game changer in developing her best practices as an educator.
